Obituary

In recognition of our proud American tradition of honorable service which our military men and women have given to their country and our state, we honor a Fallen Hero. Our nation, our state, and the National Guard Association of MS (NGAMS) regard the memorializing of its military deceased as an honorable and sacred obligation.

Another great Soldier and Fallen Hero has been released from duty, passed from our ranks on October 21, 2023, and has moved on to his heavenly home. LTC Chris E. Paul (Ret), serving with the 184th Sustainment Command, headquartered in Monticello, Mississippi, has departed and gone to a better place with our good Lord.  Chris had worked full-time at the Shelby MATES.

It takes a special person to serve within the military for their country, giving up their family time, comfort, and safety for their country, ultimately for all Americans to enjoy their freedoms, safety, and way of life. We now applaud you for your service to our country.

Rest in Peace Soldier. We applaud your patriotism and brave efforts in serving our country and your family for their support of your service. We thank you for your service. Without your efforts and your families’ support, our country would not stand so boldly, shine so bright and live so free.

You now have earned a rest, so go fly with the Angels, go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a-shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.

Another great Soldier has gone home, “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten, Soldier for Life”.

Obituary, visitation, and service details:

Christopher Edward Paul, 44, of Petal, passed away Saturday, October 21, 2023 at his home. Visitation will be Wednesday, October 25, 2023 from 1-3 p.m. at Carterville Baptist Church with services immediately following at 3 p.m. Burial will be in Carterville Baptist Church Cemetery.

Inspired by his grandfather, he made military service his life long advocation. Chris served in the Mississippi Army National Guard for over 20 years before his retirement earlier this year. He was the Assistant Superintendent at MATES at Camp Shelby and a member of Carterville Baptist Church.

Chris was a loving husband, father and son and a truer friend could not be found. His pride in his family was his joy. His never ending list of projects, desire to help others and his die-hard love of Auburn would always bring smiles. Chris left his earthly frame surrounded by friends and family. Chris wanted to be remembered by his love of others not as a victim of ALS. Contributions to ALS Association Louisiana/Mississippi Chapter in his memory may be made in lieu of flowers.

He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jessie Frank and Helen Jeanette Paul; his maternal grandparents, Paul Robert Palmer and Patricia Marie Palmer; and one sister Christina Nicole Paul.

He is survived by his wife, Brittany Norton Paul; two sons, Noah and Jonah; his mother, Beth Palmer Hatcher (Randy); his father, Terry Paul; two sisters, Raven Ashworth (Lincoln) and Morgan Camp (Casey); three brothers, Andrew Paul (Amanda), Eric Paul and Matthew Hatcher (Victoria); his close uncle, Jerry Paul and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and his loving in-laws.

Chris will be missed by so many, but left a legacy that will never be forgotten.
