Recognizing and Honoring a Fallen Hero, Who Served Within the Mississippi National Guard. “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten”

In recognition of our proud American tradition of honorable service which our military men and women have given to their country and our State, we honor a Fallen Hero. Our nation, our state, and the National Guard Association of MS (NGAMS) regard the memorializing of its retired military deceased as an honorable and sacred obligation.

Another great Soldier and Fallen Hero has been released from duty, passed from our ranks on September 13, 2023, and has moved on to his heavenly home.  LTC Edgar “Eddy” Young Hill (Ret), age 78, who had served in the MSARNG within the 1st Battalion 155th Infantry Regiment and HQ JFH has departed and gone to a better place with our good Lord. Eddie had worked full time as battalion administrative officer and later as the state technician manager within AGO HRO.

It takes a special person to serve within the military for their country, giving up their family time, comfort, and safety for their country, ultimately for all Americans to enjoy their freedoms, safety, and way of life. We now applaud you for your service to our country. A special message from General Douglas McArthur remains applicable today for our servicemen that have passed: “Old Soldiers never die; they just fade away”.

Rest in Peace Soldier. We applaud your patriotism and brave efforts in serving our country and your family for their support of your service. We thank you for your service. Without your efforts and your families’ support, our country would not stand so boldly, shine so bright and live so free.

You now have earned a rest, so go fly with the Angels, go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a-shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.

Another great Soldier has gone home, “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten, Soldier for Life”.

Lieutenant Colonel Edgar “Eddy” Young Hill Jr., age 78, of Gloster, Mississippi, died on September 13, 2023, at Shady Lawn in Vicksburg, Mississippi.

Eddy was born on July 9, 1945, in Centreville, Mississippi, to Edgar Y. Hill Sr. and Elry Butler Hill.

Eddy was a 1963 graduate of Gloster High School, and in 1968 he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the College of Business at Mississippi State University. Following 35 years of service, Eddy retired from the Army National Guard of Mississippi in 2004. After his retirement from the Guard, Eddy continued his service as a Department of Defense civilian employee of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Vicksburg, finally retiring in 2011. Eddy loved and took pride in his daughters and grandchildren, and he found great joy as a grandfather. Eddy was steadfast in his loyalty and is particularly remembered for his intelligent disobedience, wit, dry humor, generosity, and frankness in “speaking the truth.” Eddy will be greatly missed.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his former spouse Kathleen Rooney Hill, and his brother-in-law Charles W. Hair III.

Eddy is survived by his current spouse Margaret Aldridge Madison Hill of Gloster; former spouse Sharon Graham Hill of Summit; daughter Shannon Hill Mangiapane and granddaughter Molly of Louisiana; daughter Rebecca Elaine Hill and granddaughter Eloise Hill Viana of Maryland; daughter Sharon Robin Hill Brown, her spouse Cory, and grandsons Preston and Harrison of Florida; and stepson Jeff Madison, his spouse Crista, and step grandchildren Emma Grace, Jon Paul, and Luke of Louisiana. He is also survived by his sister Beverly Brumfield and brother-in-law Ike Brumfield of Tennessee and his sister Nelwyn Hair of Louisiana, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and grand nieces and nephews.

Memorial service details are forthcoming.
