Military Service Tribute, Honors, and Obituary:

Recognizing and Honoring a Fallen Hero, Who Served Within the Mississippi National Guard. “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten”.

In recognition of our proud American tradition of honorable service which our military men and women have given to their country and our State, we honor a Fallen Hero. Our nation, our state, and the National Guard Association of MS (NGAMS) regard the memorializing of its retired military deceased as an honorable and sacred obligation.

Another great Airman and Fallen Hero has been released from duty, passed from our ranks on September 13, 2026 and has moved on to his heavenly home.  Retired Senior Master Sergeant Bobby G. Covington, of Brookhaven, MS, age 66, who had served within the MSANG within the 172nd Civil Engineering Squadron, 172d Airlift Wing has departed and gone to a better place with our Lord and Savior.

It takes a special person to serve within the military for their country, giving up their family time, comfort, and safety for their country, ultimately for all Americans to enjoy their freedoms, safety, and way of life. We now applaud you for your service to our country.  A special message from General Douglas McArthur remains applicable today for our servicemen that have passed: “Old Soldiers never die; they just fade away”.

Rest in Peace Airman.  We applaud your patriotism, sacrifices, and brave efforts in serving our country and your family for their support of your service. We thank you for your service. Without your efforts and your families’ support, our country would not stand so boldly, shine so bright, and live so free.

You now have earned a rest, so go fly with the Angels, go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a-shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.

Another great Airman has gone home, “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten, Airman for Life”.

Obituary, Visitation, and Service details:

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bobby Glen Covington, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend.

Bobby was born in Brookhaven, MS on June 28, 1960, to Ralph Covington and Mattie Merle Thompson Covington.

He shared 43 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Kelly Abbey Covington. He also leaves behind his children, Anthony Colt Covington (Noelle) of Brandon, MS, Matthew Chase Covington (Jessie) of Brookhaven, MS, and Olivia Covington Wallace (Ryan) of Brookhaven, MS. Bobby was a proud and loving Pop Pop to Jude Watling, Jase “JB” Covington, Watsyn Wallace, and triplets, River, Salem, and Atlas Covington. He is also survived by his brother, Ralph Covington, Jr. (Mary).

Of all his accomplishments, he was most proud of his children and grandchildren. They were the greatest joy of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with them.

Bobby proudly devoted 28 years of service to the United States Air Force and the Mississippi Air National Guard. He achieved the rank of Senior Master Sergeant.

Bobby loved sports, especially anything involving LSU. He was an enthusiastic fan, but some of his favorite moments came from being on the field with his sons, who he proudly coached in baseball.

More than anything, Bobby was a family man. His smile, laughter, kindness, and genuine love of life will live on through his children, grandchildren, family, and all who were blessed to know him.

Bobby is preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Keith Thompson.

We are sincerely grateful for the outpouring of kindness from our dear friends and community. Your calls, visits, and prayers have been a true source of strength during this long journey.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to Deaconess Hospice, Kings Daughters Medical Center, and Simpson General Hospital for their care, compassion, and kindness shown to Bobby and our family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at Captain Jack’s Guest House on September 19, 2026, from 3-5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made for research to the Alzheimer’s Association, PO Box 96011, Washington, DC 20090-6011, in Bobby’s memory.

He was deeply loved. He will forever be missed, and his memory will always be cherished.
