Hubert Lamar Ward, 79, passed away on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, at his home in Sardis, MS.

He was born on November 16, 1941 to Clarice Craft and Hubert Joe Ward. He grew up in the Strayhorn community of Tate County and Como, MS, Panola County. Hubert was a down-to-earth kind of guy, a true family man, who deeply loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was a rare combination of someone who had a love of life and a firm understanding of what was important — the simplicity of living a life with those you love. Every Sunday was known as “family day” and Hubert, who was also a great cook, loved preparing the family meal, which was really quiet a feast! The entire family was required to attend and absolutely no excuses were accepted! He enjoyed sixty years as a tractor salesman, where he established friendships with most of the farmers in the area. Hubert proudly served his country for 30 years in the MS. National Guard and retired as a Sargent Major. He was also a Mason. He enjoyed country and blue grass music, loved nature, the outdoors and was passionate about hunting and fishing. He was a devoted friend to many. He looked forward to his weekly fishing ritual with his dear friend, Richard Darby.

Hubert will be fondly remembered by family and friends as a loving father, and a strong foundation for his family. Left to cherish his memory is his loving family, which includes his wife of sixty years, Gloria Brunell Lowrie Ward of Sardis; two sons, Steve Ward (Wanda) of Senatobia and Tim Ward (Catherine) of Sarah; six sisters, Marjorie Hutchenson (Royce) of Como, Elizabeth Graham (Dale) of Titusville, FL, Bobbie Lockhart (Tom) of Como, Lynda Harris of Sardis, Edna Still of Como, and Charlotte Jackson (Tommy) of Como; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Hayward Ward.

A graveside service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2021 at Friendship Cemetery in Como. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to a charity of the donor’s choice. Ray-Nowell Funeral Home has been entrusted with arrangements.
