Military Service Tribute, Honors, and Obituary:
Recognizing and Honoring a Fallen Hero, Who Served Within the Mississippi National Guard. “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten”.
In recognition of our proud American tradition of honorable service which our military men and women have given to their country and our State, we honor a Fallen Hero. Our nation, our state, and the National Guard Association of MS (NGAMS) regard the memorializing of its retired military deceased as an honorable and sacred obligation.
Another great Airman and Fallen Hero has been released from duty, passed from our ranks on June 1, 2026 and has moved on to his heavenly home. Retired Master Sergeant Ivey Lane Rawson, of Picayune, MS, age 93, who had served within the MSANG within the Gulfport CRTC has departed and gone to a better place with our Lord and Savior.
It takes a special person to serve within the military for their country, giving up their family time, comfort, and safety for their country, ultimately for all Americans to enjoy their freedoms, safety, and way of life. We now applaud you for your service to our country. A special message from General Douglas McArthur remains applicable today for our servicemen that have passed: “Old Soldiers never die; they just fade away”.
Rest in Peace Airman. We applaud your patriotism, sacrifices, and brave efforts in serving our country and your family for their support of your service. We thank you for your service. Without your efforts and your families’ support, our country would not stand so boldly, shine so bright, and live so free.
You now have earned a rest, so go fly with the Angels, go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a-shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.
Another great Airman has gone home, “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten, Airman for Life”.
Obituary, Visitation, and Service details:
Ivey Lane Rawson, age 93, of Picayune, Mississippi, passed peacefully into the presence of his Lord and Savior on June 1, 2026, at his home surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on May 6, 1933, in Kosciusko, Mississippi, Ivey was one of eight children born to John Wilburn Rawson and Mabry Bell Ivey Rawson. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 73 years, Thelma Lynette “Pickle” Rawson; his parents; an infant son and daughter; and his great-grandson, Blake, with whom he shared a birthday.
He is survived by his brother, Wade Rawson; his three daughters, Teresa Neal (Keith), Sharon Henderson (Doug), and Catherine Reynolds (Alan); thirteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; countless people he chose as family, and a large extended family who will forever cherish his memory.
A devoted servant of both his country and his community, Ivey proudly served in the United States Air Force for 37 years as a Military Police officer. Following his military retirement, he continued his life of service as a Harrison County Sheriff’s Deputy and Bailiff for more than 20 years.
Faith was the foundation of Ivey’s life. He faithfully served as a deacon and choir member for most of his adult years and remained active at First Baptist Church of Picayune, attending services even in his final weeks.
To know Ivey was to know a man who placed God first, family second, and the needs of others alongside his own. He devoted his life to helping anyone who needed him. He loved fiercely, served selflessly, and prayed faithfully. His family often joked that his praying knees surely needed replacing when he reached Heaven.
Ivey never met a stranger and rarely missed an opportunity to support those he loved. Whether it was a football game, school program, recital, or community event, he found a way to be there for his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. He especially loved football and was a devoted fan of the New Orleans Saints.
Known affectionately for calling his daughters and granddaughters “boy” just as often as the men in the family, Ivey brought a calm and steady presence wherever he went. He was a fixer in every sense of the word. If something broke, he could usually repair it. When he couldn’t, he would simply smile and say, “The good Lord will take care of it.”
His laugh was infectious, and when something truly tickled him, everyone within earshot found themselves laughing too. His kindness, humility, and unwavering faith left a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Though he held many titles throughout his life—Air Force veteran, deputy, bailiff, deacon, husband, father, and friend—the title he cherished most was simply “Pawpaw.”
Though his family grieves his absence, they rejoice in the legacy he leaves behind—a legacy of love, service, faith, and generosity. His influence will continue through the generations he nurtured, encouraged, and loved so well.
“Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23
