Military Service Tribute, Honors, and Obituary:
Recognizing and Honoring a Fallen Hero, Who Served Within the Mississippi National Guard. “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten”.
In recognition of our proud American tradition of honorable service which our military men and women have given to their country and our State, we honor a Fallen Hero. Our nation, our state, and the National Guard Association of MS (NGAMS) regard the memorializing of its retired military deceased as an honorable and sacred obligation.
Another great Airman and Fallen Hero has been released from duty, passed from our ranks on February 20, 2025 and has moved on to his heavenly home. Retired Master Sergeant Thomas Daniel “Danny” Evans, age 72, who had served within the MSARNG and the MSANG within the 184th Transportation Brigade and the 186th Refueler Wing has departed and gone to a better place with our good Lord.
It takes a special person to serve within the military for their country, giving up their family time, comfort, and safety for their country, ultimately for all Americans to enjoy their freedoms, safety, and way of life. We now applaud you for your service to our country. A special message from General Douglas McArthur remains applicable today for our servicemen that have passed: “Old Soldiers never die; they just fade away”.
Rest in Peace Airman. We applaud your patriotism, sacrifices, and brave efforts in serving our country and your family for their support of your service. We thank you for your service. Without your efforts and your families’ support, our country would not stand so boldly, shine so bright, and live so free.
You now have earned a rest, so go fly with the Angels, go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a-shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.
Another great Airman has gone home, “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten, Airman for Life”.
Obituary, Visitation, and Service details:
Thomas Daniel “Danny” Evans, 72 of Laurel, MS, passed away at his home on February 20, 2025 surrounded by his family. He was a unique person that had to make a connection with every person he met. Anyone that knew him understood his checklist of “let me show you what I got”. His military background made him a very detailed man and his experiences in his career as a game warden shaped him into the storyteller that everyone knew and loved.
Danny was born to Midwol and Jackie Evans in Taylorsville, MS on December 25,1952. He was blessed with a loving marriage of 49 years to his wife, Belinda. He was a graduate of West Jones High School and went on to study at Jones County Junior College. After his time in school, Danny served in the military for 33 years, 5 months, and 14 days. He served in the Navy, Army, and Air Force. He served in the Navy from July 16, 1974 to July 15, 1979. While in the Navy, he served as a boiler technician and 2nd class petty officer. He served in the Army from March 20,1984 to November of 1992. His jobs during the Army consisted of a clerk typist, Retention NCO, chaplain’s assistant, cook, General’s Enlisted Aid, and Buck Sergeant. He served in the Air Force from November of 1992 to September 4, 2011. In the Air Force, he worked in services and retired as a Master Sergeant. He was stationed at many different military bases including: USS John R. Craig, DD 885 in San Diego, California; USS WIlliam C. Lowe, DD 763 in New Orleans, Louisiana; 184 TH Transportation Brigade in Laurel, Mississippi; 186 Air Refueling Wing in Meridian, Mississippi; Ali Al Salem Kuwait; and Germany. Throughout the years, Danny received 15 medals and 22 ribbons. His favorite time in the military was serving in the Navy for 5 years. He became a game warden with Mississippi Wildlife Fisheries and Parks in 1983 and was a field officer until he became the state lake Bogue Homa manager the last years of his career until his retirement in May of 2017. He was dedicated to his career and loved socializing and laughing with his friends that he made in all the 34 years, 1 month and 25 days that he worked.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Midwol and Jacqueline Evans.
