Obituary

Military Service Tribute, Honors, and Obituary:

Recognizing and Honoring a Fallen Hero, Who Served Within the Mississippi National Guard. “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten”.

In recognition of our proud American tradition of honorable service which our military men and women have given to their country and our State, we honor a Fallen Hero. Our nation, our state, and the National Guard Association of MS (NGAMS) regard the memorializing of its retired military deceased as an honorable and sacred obligation.

Another great Airman and Fallen Hero has been released from duty, passed from our ranks on April 14, 2025 and has moved on to his heavenly home.  Retired Technical Sergeant Louie R. Woodward Sr., age 96, who had served within the MSANG within the 172d Military Security Forces Squadron, 172d AW has departed and gone to a better place with our good Lord.  Woodard  had served in both the U.S. Army and Air Force prior to being in MSANG.

It takes a special person to serve within the military for their country, giving up their family time, comfort, and safety for their country, ultimately for all Americans to enjoy their freedoms, safety, and way of life. We now applaud you for your service to our country.  A special message from General Douglas McArthur remains applicable today for our servicemen that have passed: “Old Soldiers never die; they just fade away”.

Rest in Peace Airman.  We applaud your patriotism, sacrifices, and brave efforts in serving our country and your family for their support of your service. We thank you for your service. Without your efforts and your families’ support, our country would not stand so boldly, shine so bright, and live so free.

You now have earned a rest, so go fly with the Angels, go rest high on that mountain; your work on earth is done. Go to heaven a-shoutin’ Love for the Father and the Son.

Another great Airman has gone home, “Fallen, Yet Not Forgotten, Airman for Life”.

Obituary, Visitation, and Service details:

Louie Woodward, devoted husband of sixty-seven years to Rosie Woodward, father, brother and grandfather passed into heaven on April 14, 2025.

Mr. Woodward was born to Eunice Hydrick and Eddie Woodward on July 6, 1928. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Rosie Woodward, his son Ricky Woodward, and his brothers. He is survived by his son Randy, his granddaughter Amy, his grandson Ricky, his grandson’s mother Myra.

Louie served his country as a member of the Armed Forces of the United States, including the Departments of the Army and Air Force and the National Guard. As a young man, he bravely served in Germany and Western Europe after World War II as a member of the Military Police, providing a pivotal service in the Allied effort to make the world a safer and more just place for the American values of Freedom and Liberty. He was a paratrooper as well.

Louie Woodward was a member of the Greatest Generation who fought not for fame and recognition, but because it was the “right thing to do.” He was known for his kind, gentle heart by his family, friends, and congregation.

As a man of faith and honor, he was a decades-long member of Wynndale Baptist Church. He now “dwells in the House of the Lord forever,” as stated in his most cherished and favorite Bible passage, Psalm 23, The Lord’s Prayer. He will be missed by his friends and congregation.

Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m to 11:00 a.m. on April 17, 2025 at Chancellor Funeral Home in Byram, Mississippi with graveside services and burial following at Floral Hills Cemetery in Pearl for any who desire to pay their respects.
