Sergeant First Class (SFC) (retired) Charles W. “Charlie” McGee served within the MSARNG, 155th Brigade Combat Team (BCT), 150th Brigade Engineer Battalion (BEB). Another great Soldier becomes a Fallen Hero.
Obituary
Funeral services for Mr. Charles W. “Charlie” McGee will begin at 1:00 pm Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at Evangel Temple Church with Reverend Mike Boles officiating. Interment will follow at Oddfellows Cemetery in Quitman, MS. Robert Barham Family Funeral Home is honored to be entrusted with the arrangements.
Mr. McGee, 83, of Meridian, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at his home surrounded by his family.
Born in DeSoto, MS in 1936, Charlie, was a dedicated family man and was a faithful member of Evangel Temple, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent for over 41 years. He faithfully served his nation in the Army National Guard for 39 years. He enjoyed fixing cars, watching racing and NASCAR, he was a race fanatic. In his downtime he enjoyed watching westerns especially Gun Smoke and Bonanza. In his working years he worked as a route salesman for Pepsi and Mitchell Distributing; He then began working for Delco Remy where he retired after nearly 20 years. He worked as a driver for Lead America for nearly 10 years after his retirement.
Mr. McGee is survived by his wife of 56 years, Barbara Ann McGee; children, Debbie Hartman (Bud), Lisa Irby (Marcus). Grandchildren, Ashton Dukes, Kayla Krieger, Mason Irby (Caroline), Erich Hartman, Madison Irby, and Sarah Hartman. He is also survived by his furry friend, Tippie as well as a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.
Mr. Charlie is preceded in death by his son, Mark McGee Tuggle; parents, Joseph and Delia McGee. Brothers, Joseph “Junior” McGee, Herman McGee, and Billy McGee.
The McGee family suggests memorials be made to the Building Fund at Evangel Temple.
