Services for Allen W. Johnson will be held Wednesday, October 30, 2019, at 11 a. m. from McClain-Hays Chapel with Rev. Mack Alford and Rev. Nels Norris officiating. Burial will follow in Mt. Carmel Cemetery in the Johnsonville community. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9 a.m. until time of service. McClain-Hays Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Johnson, 79, of Philadelphia, died Monday, October 28, 2019, at Baptist Attala Hospital in Kosciusko.
A native of Neshoba County and longtime Philadelphia resident, he resided in the Johnsonville community for the past 20 years. He retired as a staff sergeant from the Mississippi National Guard. He was formerly employed with U. S. Motors, and Sunbeam and Hardin’s bakeries as a bread route driver.
He was a former member of the Dixon Volunteer Fire Department and Lion Club. Mr. Johnson was a member of Mt. Carmel Baptist Church.
Survivors include daughter, Carol Pettigrew (Neil) of Philadelphia; son, Steve Johnson (Peggy) of DeKalb; grandchildren, Jesse and Luke Pettigrew, Jessica Kendrick; three sisters, Bettie Cook of Philadelphia, Sue Powell of Pelahatchie and Sandra Warren of DeKalb; two brothers, Jimmy “Jim” Johnson and Billy Wayne Johnson, both of Philadelphia; and a host of nieces, nephews and their families.
Mr. Johnson was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Ann Johnson, in 2015.
Pallbearers are Jim Sisson, Jeff Powell, Ray Cook, David Gray, Mark Majure, Joe Lee Durant, Jimmy Gray and Lee Johnson.
